(500) Days of Summer Gets a Music Video

This summer has seen two quirky romantic films — both with somewhat depressing endings — bucking the trend of horrendous action blockbusters. Adam and (500) Days of Summer explore the idea that love doesn’t always conquer all. While Adam is the superior movie, (500) Days of Summer is the slicker production, and features one of my favorite actresses, Zooey Deschanel.

Besides the ideal pairing of Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (500) Days of Summer features one of the cheekiest musical numbers to grace the silver screen over the last few years. And not just any musical number, rather a song and dance that incorporates a blue bird on Gordon-Levitt’s shoulder. However, the real treat of (500) Days of Summer is hearing Deschanel sing on the soundtrack with her band She & Him.

Adding to the quirkiness of this film, its director Marc Webb has also put together a music video for the She & Him song “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here.” Featuring both Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt, the video tells a unique story unrelated to (500) Days of Summer. Simply put, this is a cool component to an already lovable film.
